Two families decided to join forces to open Hillside Tavern restaurant in the tranquil suburb of Lynnwood, Pretoria. On 18 October 1989 Hillside’s doors opened for business. The rest is history.
For many years, Francois and Nicola worked together with their partners as a team to build a popular and successful restaurant brand.
This resulted in Hillside winning the coveted Golden T Bone award for the best Steakhouse in South Africa both in 1992 and 1993. This restaurant competition, which was the biggest of its kind in South Africa at the time was adjudicated by the very well known, late Mr. Peter Devereaux and sponsored by the Sunday Times.
